Emerson Fittipaldi facing financial difficulties in Brazil
Fittipaldi's struggles surfaced after a report aired by Brazil's Record TV over the weekend. The revelations came as a surprise to most Brazilians, as Fittipaldi was largely seen as a very successful businessman following his racing days. Tuesday's statement sent to The Associated Press said the two-time F1 champion was optimistic about overcoming this situation. "Emerson Fittipaldi believes that he will solve this issue with more work. He has confidence in the future economic outlook and financial health of his companies," the statement said, adding that the driver never hid his financial struggles or denied interviews on the subject. "He is seeking partnerships and solutions for this situation."
Marina Silva defends call for new presidential elections
Former Minister Marina Silva defended Tuesday (Apr. 5) a call for new presidential elections, should it be proven that money from corruption scheme has "changed the sovereign will of the Brazilian society in the elections" of 2014. According to Marina Silva, if money from corruption scheme was used "to rig the elections, the license for Rousseff-Temer coalition should be revoked." In this case, "the constitutional path for new elections must be the Superior Electoral Court (TSE)", reported the former senator and founder of Sustainability Network (REDE).
Supreme Court justice rejects PSB's and PSBD's motions against Lula appointment
R03;Supreme Court (STF) Justice Teori Zavascki rejected Monday (Apr. 4) the motions filed by PSB and PSDB parties against the president's decree appointing former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as chief-of-staff. To his understanding, actions against the violation of a constitutional fundamental right, known in Portuguese as ADPFs, do not apply in the arguments presented.
Rousseff reaffirms she will not resign
President Dilma Rousseff reaffirmed on her official Facebook page Sunday (Apr. 3) that she will not resign from office. Her statement is a response to an editor's opinion column published on the Sunday edition of Folha de S. Paulo newspaper saying the president is no longer in condition to lead the country and therefore she had better resign.
